There’s a reason this band was voted “Band of the Month” by our readers.
Listen to a song
We went to see them perform at Helen’s on January 21st and what a show! These guys are full of energy, they love their audience, and their array of superbly sung songs made seating easy to find because every one was shaking it on the dance floor.
There is a method to their madness: their first set had everyone singing and dancing to today’s pop dance songs, the second set included dance songs that were hits from the late ’90’s to today, and their final set was head-banging rock ‘n’ roll! No matter your musical preferences, Griffin and the Gargoyles had it covered.
Thou shalt love thy fans: There was so much love going on between the band and the audience that I began to wonder if I was really in the middle of some sort of family reunion, lol. Throughout their performance, lead singer, Griffin took photos from on stage of the dancing audience who were ecstatic to be photographed. In between sets, every guy in the band was out mingling with the audience; not promoting their band but thanking them for coming. Even more impressive, they would recognize someone whom they recognized from other concerts and made a point to tell them so.
There’s no bizness like show bizness: While they sincerely love their fans, Griffin and the Gargoyles really have it going on in the promotions department. They have a wicked website, a myspace, an email list, and do drawings to give away prizes such as a free in-home concert! Who wouldn’t love that? While many bands offer a website and myspace for their fan base, not all do as Griffin and the Gargoyles; update their site almost daily and they offer pictures of the fans at their shows.
Griffin (Griff)- Singer
A former banker, Griff turned his tie in for a microphone and started singing professionally at the age of 24. He was one of the founding members of Gargoyle Reign. He attended SLU where he majored in Finance and played on the baseball team. He is a real estate broker and mortgage lender.

He started playing in bands at the age of 17. his Mother is his biggest influence in getting him involved with music; she started him playing piano at the age of 5 but harmony has always been his favorite thing to do. He also was a musical director and has done many musicals and radio spots, including the music for the Steve and DC show.Brian Smith-Bass
Brian, a headhunter by day and rock star by night. He says he started playing bass because he was the 2nd best guitar player in a band. Now a master of bass he prefers custom made 5-strings, but still has his old Peavey from days past. He has toured in original bands and acted as an opening act for national bands.
Likes: All things Rock, funk, and hip-hop and Jazz (loves Def Leppard)
Dislikes: “The Hater Nation”, being confused for AndyAaron Zeveski-Drums
Aaron lives and breathes drums and music. He majored in music at Webster University, and can play virtually anything from Rock to jazz. He is probably some kind of mad genius; he can pretty much do anything he attempts, whether its playing diverse styles of music, or recording music, or making websites.Rich (Richie)-Guitar
Rich has been playing with “Gargoyle” in some capacity since he was 19. Rich: “one day, in high school, I was talking to a friend of mine who was in a band and this really cute girl over heard us and came up and started talking to me; me-this shy, nerdy guy who never had girls talk to him— that day I knew I was going to be a musician.”
Quirkiest Memory: I remember playing on the stairs at Syberg’s on Gravois for free every Wednesday while dodging waitresses going up and down the stairs.”
The Interview:
You guys have an amazing range of songs. What’s your favorite stuff to play? We play whatever is on the radio. Everything from Rock, Alternative, Pop, Hip Hop, 80’s, Classic and Hard Rock-you name it, we got it.
Don’t expect to hear the same old songs in the same order night after night. With over an entire set and a half of new songs already under their belt and a play list that is growing by the week, you can be assured to hear something new each and every night…but don’t be surprised if they toss in a couple old favorites here and there.
They can even play an even wider range of music with their three piece group. They do everything from Elvis, Beatles, Disco, R&B, Hip hop, dance, rock, classics and standards.
